About

I’m a novelist and award-winning short story writer based in the UK.

My work has appeared in Artificium, Flash Fiction Magazine, World Wide Writers, Star & Crescent, Portsmouth News, the Fairlight Books website and on BBC Radio. I’ve also been longlisted, shortlisted and placed in numerous competitions.

My writing aims to strike a happy medium between literary and genre writing. An element of humour and/or irony often creeps in. I’m not a fan of sticking to rigid genre conventions and therefore I aim to be varied, eclectic and thought-provoking, as well as entertaining.

Some of my favourite writers include David Mitchell, Scarlett Thomas, Jonathan Coe, Kurt Vonnegut, Graham Greene, Dickens, Eliot, Shakespeare … I could go on.

In my previous jobs I have worked as a civil engineer, programmer, training instructor and technical writer. I’m an editor and the website designer for my wife Helen‘s environmental project Pens of the Earth, and website designer for the Portsmouth Authors Collective.

I also play the guitar and brew my own beer.

A list of my publications is available in the bibliography.
